  1. General purpose. Academic advisement is a crucial part of every undergraduate and graduate student’s experience. The University is committed to quality academic advisement for all students and aligns advising practices with the UT System Advising Rubric.
  2. General process. For advising to be successful, the advising process must work both ways. The advisor will be available to students through regularly scheduled appointments. The student must also seek out assistance from the advisor when needed.
  3. Appointments. All students, regardless of the modality of instruction (online, hybrid, or face-to-face), can schedule appointments online with the using advising software, such as EAB-Navigate, by email, or by phone. Walk-in appointments are allowed when there is appointment availability.
  4. Frequency. All students must interact with their advisor at least once a semester.
  5. Individual advisors. All students, regardless of the modality of instruction (online, hybrid, or face-to-face), can identify their advisor in myUTTyler on the Student Center page or in the advising software.

D.2. General Purpose of Mentoring

Mentoring is a collaborative relationship between individuals (students, faculty, and staff) that facilitates professional development and growth. The University recognizes that no one person (mentor) can provide all forms of support or knowledge to assist the mentee in developing the skills and knowledge for their ultimate success. Therefore, the University supports a network of mentors to help students meet academic, personal, and career goals. All students are encouraged to participate in mentoring through interactions with their faculty and through formal mentoring programs throughout the University.
