3.1.11 Termination of Employment of a Faculty Member

A. Purpose

This document describes Board policy on the reasons and procedures for termination of tenured and non-tenured faculty. (See Regents’ Rules and Regulations, Series 31008)

D. Policy

Termination of the employment of a faculty member who has been granted tenure and of all other faculty members before the expiration of the stated period of appointment, except as otherwise provided in Rule 31007, Section 5, and Texas Education Code Section 51.943, or by resignation or retirement, will be only for good cause shown.

The procedures to be followed regarding the Termination of a Tenured Faculty Member are provided in Regents’ Rules and Regulations, Series 31008.

G. Review

The Divisional Head for this policy is the Provost. This policy shall be reviewed every five years or sooner if necessary by the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs in consultation with the Faculty Senate.
