3.1.13 Administrative Stipends for Faculty

A. Purpose

It is the purpose of this policy to provide guidelines on administrative stipends for faculty.

B. Persons Affected

Faculty appointed to perform administrative duties.

C. Definitions

None.

D. Policy and Procedures

Because the assumption of administrative duties by faculty is essential to the effective operation of the University, it is also appropriate to provide an administrative stipend in recognition of added responsibilities. The following administrative duties within the University qualify for administrative stipends:

  1. Associate dean, assistant dean and department chair.
  2. Acting or interim dean, assistant dean or department chair.
  3. Administration of institutes, centers or other units that are equivalent in scope and complexity to an academic department.

A faculty member holding an administrative stipend may also receive course release for administrative duties. Administrative stipends and course releases are temporary and may not continue once the administrative duties are terminated.

A faculty member may not receive more than one administrative stipend. However, if an individual who is already receiving a stipend is assigned additional responsibilities, his or her stipend may be increased.

E. Responsibilities

The Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs is responsible for the administration of this policy.

F. Review

The Divisional Head for this policy is the Provost. This policy shall be reviewed every five years or sooner if necessary by the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs in consultation with the Faculty Senate.
