4.26.2 Bloodborne Pathogens

A. Purpose

The purpose is to define and address Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) exposure prevention within UT Tyler owned, leased, operated, or otherwise contractually obligated spaces.

B. Persons Affected

This policy applies to all persons working with or has the possibility of exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

C. Definitions

BBP – Blood borne Pathogens

EH&S – Department of Environmental Health and Safety

OSHA – Occupational Health and Safety Administration

HSC – University of Texas Health Science Center

TXHSC – Texas Health and Safety Code

UT – The University of Texas

D. Policy

  1. The University of Texas (UT) at Tyler will have a BBP exposure prevention plan for all campuses.
  2. The plans will include methods of prevention and reporting BBP incidents.
  3. The Health Science Center campus will maintain a, “Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Prevention Plan,” within Infection Prevention policies and found on the Health Science Center website.

  4. The Main, Longview, and Palestine campuses will follow, “Exposure Control Program,” and found on the EH&S website.
