2.1.4 News Media Requests
A. Purpose
To define the process by which responses to news media requests are made.
B. Persons Affected
All University of Texas at Tyler (the “University”) faculty and staff.

D. Policy
Faculty and staff will notify the Media Relations Representative immediately upon being contacted by a representative of any news-gathering and dissemination organization.
It is not the intent of this policy to prohibit any member of the faculty or staff from responding to inquiries made by the various news media about matters pertaining to their professional area of competence, provided such response does not purport to be an official statement or the administrative position of the University.
Members of the faculty and staff are expected to exercise judgment in responding to such inquiries, as serious consequences may result which adversely affect the University’s image or violate confidentiality if errors in judgment occur in dealing with news media.
E. Responsibilities
The Vice President for Marketing and Communications is the responsible administrator for this policy.
