COMD 5362 Speech Sound Disorders

This course focuses on the prevention, assessment, and treatment of speech sound disorders, with the major focus being on children from 12 months through early adulthood. Students will review the biological, organic, and socioeconomic factors affecting phonological and speech articulation skills, and the various etiological factors associated with speech sound disorders. Students will explore and administer various diagnostic tests, test batteries, diagnostic protocols, and diagnostic procedures. They will study major treatment approaches and techniques and develop treatment resources. They will write treatment and implement plans with measurable objectives for children and adults. The course also explores the cultural and linguistic issues known to influence the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of speech sound disorders.
