COMD 5361 Motor Speech Disorders
This course focuses on the prevention, assessment, and intervention for motor speech disorders in children and adults. It begins with an overview of the speech motor system and the neurophysiology of speech production from planning and motor execution to motor control and refinement of speech movements. Students will study the various disorders of speech motor production, the diagnostic features and procedures, and effective treatment methods. The course also addresses the physiological, organic, cultural, cognitive, and socioeconomic issues pertaining to the diagnosis and treatment of speech motor disorders. Students will analyze case studies and develop treatment plans with measurable objectives for the treatment of speech sound deficits in children and adults.
