The College of Engineering is composed of five departments – the departments of Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. It offers five ABET accredited bachelor of science degree programs and three master's degree programs. The Jasper Department of Chemical Engineering offers the Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. The Department of Civil Engineering offers the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and the Master of Science in Civil Engineering. The Department of Construction Management offers the Bachelor of Science in Construction Management and the Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering. The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, the Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, and the Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
In addition to studying on campus in Tyler, students can complete a baccalaureate degree in civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or construction management through study at the Houston Engineering Center. Students pursuing a degree through the Houston Engineering Center typically will complete the first two years of study at a community college and complete the last two years with UT Tyler.

Laptop Requirement
All incoming undergraduate students in the College of Engineering are required to have a laptop at their disposal. Individual courses may require a laptop for class or lab sessions and relevant coursework. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that their laptop meets the minimum requirements to utilize the recommended software. For details regarding minimum hardware requirements and recommended software, refer to the departmental website for the respective degree program.
REGULATIONS REGARDING WORK TOWARD A DEGREE IN THE COLLEGE OF ENGNEERING
Enrollment in Other Institution(s): To ensure adequate coverage of needed material, once enrolled at UT TYLER as a College of Engineering major, a student must obtain written permission from the department by submitting the Undergraduate Transient Form along with the necessary supporting documentation from the external institution such as course syllabi and/or catalog course description before enrolling in courses intended to be transferred to the University for credit toward a UT TYLER engineering degree
Transfer Courses: Only equivalent courses in a program accredited by ABET or those lower division courses accepted by UT TYLER, the College of Engineering or the student’s major department may be counted towards a degree offered in the College of Engineering.
Validation of Transfer Credit: Transfer credit that constitutes a part of a continuing course sequence in the same area will be validated only upon satisfactory completion of the succeeding course in the sequence at UT TYLER. Students whose performance in the subsequent courses at UT TYLER is poor may be required to repeat courses taken elsewhere.
C-Grade Rule: A grade of grade of C or better in a pre-professional course indicates satisfactory preparation for further engineering education. Any such course in which grade of C or better is not earned must by repeated before enrolling in any course for which it is a prerequisite in an engineering required course. (This may be adjusted based on institutional or departmental policy and practice but will require all prerequisites to be compliant with C-grade rule or requirements of previous attendance.) This requirement is subject to the Three-Attempt Rule. Students unable to raise their grade to at least a C in a pre-professional course within three enrollments (attempts) are required to change their major to a field outside of the College or to a College of Engineering program that does not include that course.
Three-Attempt Rule: Students may attempt a course (per state law) a maximum of three times (repeated twice) and apply that course toward an undergraduate degree in the College of Engineering following the policy established. The "course", in this context, is any course which is a degree requirement or preparatory to a degree requirement for a degree offered in the College. Enrollment in a course for a period sufficient for assignment of a grade, including a grade of W, is considered an attempt. Drops occurring prior to Census are excluded from attempts count.
COMMITMENT TO STUDENT SUCCESS
The College of Engineering is dedicated to the success of all students. Therefore, they have developed regulations to assist students entering UT Tyler as freshman and those entering as transfer students to be successful.
REGULATIONS FOR FRESHMEN: Students admitted to The University of Texas at Tyler as freshman engineering students have automatic admission to the UT Tyler College of Engineering and their choice of program discipline within the College. This includes the ability to attend any campus on which the engineering program selected is offered (Tyler or the Houston Engineering Center).
To Maintain your Eligibility for Continued Enrollment in the College of Engineering:
TSI Liable Students: You must complete all TSI coursework to become TSI complete with a 2.5 or better GPA in the first semester you are enrolled at UT Tyler.
ALL Freshman Students:
1. Maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher in all Core and lower division coursework.
2. In all programs but Construction Management, complete the prerequisites necessary for enrollment in MATH 2413 and CHEM 1311/1111 by the end of your second semester at UT Tyler. Construction Management students must complete all the prerequisites necessary for enrollment in MATH 2312 and CHEM 1305/1105 or BIOL 1306/1106 by the end of your second semester at UT Tyler.
3. Attend and complete ENGR 1000 within your first two semesters at UT Tyler.
4. Complete all courses with a grade of “C” or higher on the first attempt. A drop (withdrawal) or course failure will require reenrollment subject to policies in the Three Attempt Rule.
5. Meet with your advisor before enrolling each semester until your degree plan in completed to ensure you are on track and complete your degree as quickly as possible.
Students who fail to meet the continuous enrollment eligibility requirements will take other courses until their GPA has risen before being allowed to begin taking engineering courses again.
REGULATIONS FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS
Students who are admitted to The University of Texas at Tyler as an engineering student are eligible to enroll in College of Engineering course work leading to a degree in any engineering discipline offered by the college when the following criteria have been met:
1. Be a current UT Tyler student with an active student ID and Patriot email address.
2. Have at least a 2.5 GPA.
3. Complete all appropriate required lower division courses in the Field of Study or equivalent for the chosen program.
4. In all programs but Construction Management, complete the prerequisites necessary for enrollment in MATH 2413 and CHEM 1311/1111 by the end of your second semester at UT Tyler. Construction Management students must complete all the prerequisites necessary for enrollment in MATH 2312 and CHEM 1305/1105 or BIOL 1306/1106 by the end of your second semester at UT Tyler.
5. Attend and complete ENGR 1000 within your first two semesters at UT Tyler.
