7.5.9 Encryption Guidelines
A. Purpose
To establish encryption as a requirement for all University of Texas at Tyler (the "University") and personally owned computers and mobile devices that are used to conduct University business.
B. Persons Affected
All individuals who use any University Information Resources.
C. Definitions

D. Policy
The University strictly adheres to the encryption guidelines set forth by UTS165 Standard 11: Safeguarding Data.
In a collaborative effort, the departments of Information Technology and Information Security will maintain a set of encryption applications to be used on all University owned devices. In addition, these departments will make best-practice recommendations to faculty and staff about encryption application options for personally-owned computers.

F. Review Responsibilities and Dates
The Division Head for this Policy is the Chief Information Security Officer and this Policy shall be reviewed every two (2) years or sooner, if necessary, by the Division Head or their designee.
