OCTH 5211 Introduction to Professional Communication in Occupational Therapy

This course is a hybrid blended course with face- to- face requirements (2 credit) and is for the entry-level clinician to learn professional communication with patients, caregivers/families, other health care professionals, and professional/community stake holders while upholding the AOTA Code of Ethics. Course includes techniques and understanding of how to navigate difficult conversations and challenging behaviors, how to build relationships with awareness of cultural diversity and sensitivity, review patient communication scenarios, role playing of effective vs. non-effective communication, learn how to appropriately navigate stressful situations, develop self-awareness as an entry-level therapist, use of empathy and therapeutic use of self.
