3.2.10 Academic Advisement and Mentoring

A. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to establish a policy regarding advising students.

B. Persons Affected

Academic advisors, faculty and students.

C. Definitions

D. Policy

All UT Tyler faculty mentor students in their respective disciplines. In addition, students are assigned to a faculty member and/or professional staff member to assist with course selection to ensure students make timely progress toward degree completion.

E. Responsibilities

The Office of the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs is responsible for the administration of this policy.

F. Procedures

The advisor assists the student in the planning of a degree program and in selection of courses each semester. 

G. Review

The Divisional Head for this policy is the Provost. This policy shall be reviewed every five years or sooner if necessary by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Executive Director of Academic Success and the Council of Academic Deans, in consultation with the Faculty Senate.
