History and Social Studies Teacher Certification
All students wishing to be certified to teach history (7-12) in Texas public schools must complete the Academic Foundations Professional Development, the B.A. or B.S. in History degree requirements, and meet the requirements described in the Certification section of the College of Education and Psychology section of this catalog.
All students wishing to teach social studies (4-8 and 7-12) in Texas public schools must complete the Academic Foundations, Professional Development, and the required social studies content courses. For 7-12 certification, students must complete the B.A./B.S. in History or the B.A./B.S. in Political Science, and the required social studies content courses, which can be found in the Certification section of the catalog. The teacher certification social studies minor requires 3 more hours of specified POLS upper-division courses.
