Five Year BS MS 4-1 Program

UT Tyler Undergraduate students in Mathematics may choose this program to complete both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in a minimum of 5 years. Students are required to take 9 credits of approved graduate-level courses as electives in their senior year, while also completing the standard requirements of graduating seniors. Students interested in the program must obtain department approval to enroll in the program no later than the last semester of their junior year. Students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 will be provisionally admitted to this program in the fall semester of their senior year and will receive full admission to the graduate program after completing all requirements for the Mathematics BS degree. Students must obtain at least an average “B” grade in all graduate-level courses taken during their senior year.

Note: Participants in the 4+1 program who intend to finish in 5 years should complete requirements of the bachelor’s degree during the fall semester of their senior year. Those who complete their bachelor’s degree in four years will require an additional semester.

Eligible course substitutions include the following:

1. MATH 5331: may replace MATH 4336, MATH 4341, MATH 4351, MATH 3373, MATH 4373, MATH 4301, MATH 4306, MATH 4321, MATH 4380 or MATH 3365.
2. MATH 5341 may replace MATH 4336, MATH 4341, MATH 4351, MATH 3373, MATH 4373,  MATH 4301, MATH 4306, MATH 4321, MATH 4380 or MATH 3365.
3. MATH 5351 may replace MATH 4336, MATH 4341, MATH 4351, MATH 3373, MATH 4373, MATH 4301, MATH 4306, MATH 4321, MATH 4380, or MATH 3365.
4. MATH 5381 may replace MATH 4336, MATH 4341, MATH 4351, MATH 3373, MATH 4373, MATH 4301, MATH 4306, MATH 4321, MATH 4380, or MATH 3365.
5. MATH 5301 may replace MATH 4336, MATH 4341, MATH 4351, MATH 3373, MATH 4373, MATH 4301, MATH 4306, MATH 4321, MATH 4380, or MATH 3365.
6. MATH 5306 may replace MATH 4336, MATH 4341, MATH 4351, MATH 3373, MATH 4373, MATH 4301, MATH 4306, MATH 4321, MATH 4380, or MATH 3365.
7. MATH 5311 may replace MATH 4336, MATH 4341, MATH 4351, MATH 3373, MATH 4373, MATH 4301, MATH 4306, MATH 4321, MATH 4380, or MATH 3365.
