PBHL 5375 Population Health Analytics & Applied Statistics
Course Description:
This course establishes the foundations of public health analytics to transition data from information to knowledge and actionable wisdom. This course builds on a foundation of statistics, basic analytics, evidence-based practice, and implementation science. Students will use data analytics and visualization methods to support research, change management and decision making with emphasis on health equity and social determinants of health. The course will provide the basics of statistical analysis, measurement theory and data management. The course will focus on the application of statistical and analytics methods for examining population health. The student will have hands-on experience using IBM SPSS statistical software and an introduction to R and R Studio in computer labs with data preparation, statistical analysis, and data visualization. Statistical tests covered in the course will range from simple T-test through multiple regression with an introduction to advanced modeling, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
