This course provides a survey of principles of chemical reactivity and fundamentals in essential chemical/biochemical concepts for better understanding health science phenomena. The course will review key principles of organic chemistry and serve as a primer to understand the chemistry of life, which is based on carbon. The course will extend into topics of biochemistry, including the underpinning molecules forming the functional materials of cells, continuing through and overview of metabolism and the driving forces that fuel cellular activity. The course will look at developing students ability to apply the principles learned to problem solve chemical/biochemical related questioning that is commonly found in entrance exams like the MCAT/DAT.
