Educational Diagnostician Certification Preparation Program
The Educational Diagnostician Certification Preparation Program is a 27-semester-hour program that requires a) possessing a master’s degree, b) holding a teacher’s certification (any field), and c) completion of the specified course sequence within six years.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the Educational Diagnostician Certification Preparation Program, a prospective student must:
- Hold a master’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Be a Texas Certified teacher (any field).
- Complete the Graduate Study Admissions Application form and submit it to the Office of Graduate Admissions.
- Submit Texas teaching service record and any other documents required by Texas governing units.
- Submit official transcripts from the undergraduate institutions attended.
- If required, send official scores (obtained within the past five years) on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions.
- Complete an interview with a member of the special education faculty.
- Have an appropriate GPA in degree plan as set by Texas Administrative Code and other administrative units.
- Admission is determined based on undergraduate GPA and, if necessary, satisfactory scores on the GRE in combination with the undergraduate GPA, successful admission interview, and the applicant’s demonstrated commitment to his or her chosen field of study.
- Pay Admission Fee for Entry into Educator Preparation Program.
NOTE 1: The Special Education program is a limited admission program. Cohorts are only admitted in the summer terms. For detailed information regarding current admission requirements and application deadline, please see:

NOTE 2: In accordance with Texas Administrative Code, all applicants must be fully admitted prior to taking any coursework in the area in which they are seeking certification. Therefore, no provisional admission is allowed.
